Update on Oscar

He is doing MUCH better and is now getting spoiled eating boiled chicken and broth!

Here's the latest picture of the patient:

I took this when he was sitting next to me, begging me to go take a nap with him, which doesn't sound to bad since I woke up early and had a hard time getting back to sleep.

But at least it seems he's out of the woods for now and is going to get awful spoiled on boiled chicken and rice, so thanks for all the prayers and kind thoughts about Oscar and we'll keep you updated on his progress!

All about Oscar

I want to introduce you to Oscar Mayer Hill, my sweet adorable little dachshund puppy! He was my Valentines Day present from my husband this year. He is really adorable and has loads of character, as you can tell from the picture at the right where he is sticking his tongue out at everyone!

He makes the funniest expressions, as in the next photo, and he is begining to think he's a cat. If you notice, he is laying on the back of the couch. Our cats are very bad examples for him to follow and he's getting worse. His best buddy is our cat Blizzard, and boy, are they are so funny to watch!

Never would imagine that a big white tomcat would allow himself to get body slammed by a puppy 1/3 his size and actually fall to the groud and let said puppy pin him on the floor like they were in a bad wrestling match! Can't wait for my hubbie to get his Safety Award from work, which just happens to be a camcorder. I'll make sure to get lots of footage of them, if Oscar can overcome his current obstacle, he's got Parvo.

He was supposed to go to the vet the week of Spring Break, when my husband was off, so he could get his 2nd round of shots etc. But, said husband got sick and then the weather got bad, so lots of things that were promised to be done, didn't and that included the visit to the vet, and the visit to the vehicle inspector.

So, since the inspection was going to go out on the first of this month, the inspection came first on my husband's next Friday off and Oscar was going to be scheduled for the vet visit on the next Friday off, which is next Friday. But on Tuesday, Oscar started vomiting and having diarhea and it just got worse. Wednesday, he couldn't even hold any water down and we knew he needed to get to a vet ASAP. Thank goodness there is a late evening Emergency Animal Clinic in Midland and William took him in last night.

Now, Oscar has had 2 shots and has 2 prescriptions. The vet said that he is only in the first stage of parvo and if it's caught early, like Oscar's was, more then likely he will make a good to complete recovery. Since he had had his first vaccines and he is older then most puppies who contract parvo, he has a much better chance of the complete recovery. Just have to keep him hydrated with Pedialyte, Gatorade, and water, then we slowly start adding bland food to his diet and ask everyone we know for their Love and Prayers that my sweet little cuddly Oscar Mayer weiner dog will make a speedy and complete recovery.

Sad day and interesting pictures

First, I'd like to say it's a sad day here in Rankin, we are having to bury one of our most beloved sons today. My co-worker's brother-in-law passed away very unexpectedly Wednesday evening just as he was finishing up the day working on his ranch in South Dakota. Bill was only 48. He is survived by both parents, his wife and 2 children, his 3 brothers, their wives and his many nieces and nephews. He worked on his ranch in South Dakota during part of the year and the other part at his family ranch down here. He is going to be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. So, keep our little town in your thoughts and prayers as we come together today to celebrate his life and lay him to rest. Thank you!

Now, on a lighter note, wanted to pass on some photos that could very well have been taken by any of us out here in West Texas these last few weeks as spring has finally sprung! Out here we all knows what that means-watch your step when you go for a walk...

They meet...
They court ....
They shake a couple of rattles...
And then off into the sunset...
Don't need that walk today anyway, think I'll just go play my Wii Fit!
